John Deere #2
John Deere #2 | « October 31, 2007 »

Now that Bryce is walking he is very involved with his surroundings. I think his Grandparents need to get him something to push or pull around at home.

is that my french bro-in-law joe? ;) I'm embarrassed to say my dad called me on misspelling deere in john deere. i had to correct it immediately before being banished from iowa farmer's daughter status. dad -- know that i still remember how to dock tails and castrate pigs. i can shuck corn with the best of them and drive a bailer in a straight line 'til the sun goes down on the hottest, most humid day of the year. just because i know how to spell pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and gewurztraminer does not mean that i've lost my farming roots. rather I've expanded my agricultural knowledge to include viticulture. i love that i am one of the rare people in this country who grew up on a farm. i feel that i have a special knowledge and skills that few possess. it is part of what defines me as a person. you set me up for success. how can i thank you for the sacrifices you and mom made for the wonderful life we enjoyed. the best times. the strongest memories. i'm searching for how to give bryce that strong foundation in purpose, commitment, love for animals and nature and focus on what matters. so you see, i cannot spell john deere but i do remember the valuable lessons that come to you when driving a new, air conditioned john deer tractor on the hottest day of the year when your children and farm hands are bailing hay in the harsh environment of an iowa summer.

Denise, I love what you wrote about growing up on the Farm. I think about that kind of stuff all the time. Joseph watches the old animated version of E.B. Whites' Charlotte's Web and cries in the begining when they want to kill Wilbur because he is the runt of the litter. I told him how we would try to save the runts and play with the pigs growing up. Now he loves to hear my farm Girl stories.
